2010

JULY

Thursday 8 July - 4-day opening at Re-Useful Centre begins

From today the Re-Useful Centre on Ramsey Road is open four days a week! You can come down on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, 10am - 4pm and join in the re-use excitement.

Tuesday 13 July 2010 - Green Drinks

Come and solve the world's problems with other green-minded people over a drink or two at the Slug and Lettuce function room, 38 Warwick Street, from 7.30pm-10pm.

Friday 16 July 2010 - Work party at East Lodge

We need your help this Friday afternoon (4pm onwards) for a final push in The Sustainability Garden at East Lodge.

Valpak (a local recycling business) have been a great help, sending hordes of staff throughout June to dig in, lay a patio and make lots of insect hotels.  We now need to get the garden finished and ready to be opened to the public and for our next volunteers social which we want to hold in the garden in August.  We’ll be moving a bit of soil around, building a small retaining wall, weeding and general tidying.  Inside Rick will be finishing off sanding one of our info rooms.

We’ll have cold drinks and snacks and will probably go down to the pub afterwards to celebrate our hard work.  This is a one-off volunteering event so you don’t need to be an official Action 21 volunteer so feel free to bring friends/family along to help out.  There’ll also be some child friendly tasks on offer.

If you're able to help out, email Amy@action21.co.uk, call 01926 453030 or just drop in.

Friday 23 July - Celebration of re-use at the Recycle Warehouse, 1pm

One of our volunteers have calculated that, over the past four years, Action 21 has diverted from landfill enough goods to fill the main hall of the Royal Priors over ten times. So, to help us celebrate, local MP Chris White will be popping down to the Recycle Warehouse at 1pm on Friday 23 July. We'll be raising a glass (of something non alcoholic) with volunteers, customers and staff. Come down to the Recycle Warehouse to see re-use in action.

Friday 23 - Sunday 25 July 2010 - Recycling at Warwick Folk Festival

This is a new event for Action 21, and a new development for Warwick Folk Festival. We're helping the guys to green up their festival this year. Can you help? Join us as a recycling steward!  Contact Amy Footer for more information (amy@action21.co.uk or 01926 453030).

Saturday 31 July 2010 - Renewable Energy Club workshop on Community Owned Hydro

At this workshop on Saturday 31 July from 11am - 3pm Steve Walsh from H2ope will be talking on how to set up a community-owned hydro scheme. The cost is £5 to cover room hire, and booking is essential. For more information email membership@renewable-energy-club.org.uk.

Come down and visit the first ever centre for sustainability in Leamington (and find out how you can help us make the finishing touches!).

The Sustainability Centre is at East Lodge, Jephson Gardens, Willes Road, Leamington Spa, CV32 4ER.
