Project Overview
Action 21 is involved in lots of different nature garden and allotment restoration projects in schools and communities.
Principal Function of Volunteer
We need volunteers to help out in the design/planning stages and also with the actual physical and creative work associated with creating these gardens and nature sites.
Tasks and Activities
As a volunteer you will carry out some or all of the following activities, depending on your individual capabilities and preferences. This list is only a guide to the types of activities that may be required.
• Weeding and clearing back brambles and over grown land
• Creating seating areas, helping to sand and prepare log benches
• Helping to design garden layouts
• Making insect hotels
• Creating signs
• Digging to create ponds
• Creating a project plan
• Planting wild flower or herb areas
• Site surveying
• Levelling earth
• Repairing fences
• Consulting with the local community or with school children

Skills/Qualifications/Experience sought
No particular skills or experience are required as full training and support will be provided and volunteers can take on as little or as much as they’d like.

Training, Reviews & Support
General
• Registration session with Amy, The Volunteer Development Worker to provide an overview of Action 21 and what volunteering on our projects involves. Also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
• Project Induction with the Action 21 staff supervisor
• End of probation review session (after 4 weeks or sessions of volunteering; with Amy and/or the supervisor as appropriate)
• 6 monthly review sessions with Amy The Volunteer Development Worker
Expenses
You can claim back reasonable expenses for travel. How you go about claiming back these costs will be explained in more detail during your induction.
If you have the time to volunteer for a full day (about 7 hrs) we’ll even give you a free lunch!
Dress Code
If you’re doing practical work on the garden or allotment you’ll need to wear suitable outdoor clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy! Remember to bring sun protection like hats and sun cream and a waterproof if it’s rainy.
Location
Varies – we’re working on projects in Leamington Spa, Warwick and in other local areas.
