Garden gangs

From gravel to greenery, we're transforming our outdoor spaces into useful places. We want to make the most of the outdoor land and gardens in this area.

The Garden Gangs will work in places around Warwick District to help turn community spaces, gardens and outdoor areas into really fruitful, applying their knowledge and enthusiasm to make the most of what's already there.

A pilot project is running at the Re-Useful Centre, creating a garden for practical use and imrpoving the look of the outside space there. It will demonstrate creative, affordable ways to get growing, using recycled vessels as growing containers and showing visitors the possibilities of growing plants and vegetables regardless of space, budget or experience.

This is one of our first volunteer-led projects. If you'd like to get involved, please contact our Volunteer Programme Manager, Amy Footer, tel. 01926 453030.

Re-Useful Centre Garden - News

3 June 2010

Donations of plants from Canalside have been gratefully received and planted out - purple sprouting, tomatoes and broad beans - looking a little stressed but hopefully some tlc will see them revive! First beans on the early broad beans and mixed salad and watercress has already sprouted from last week's session.

28 April 2010

Bottle collections ongoing. Milverton school now interested in collecting too.

22 April 2010

The first plantings have taken place and the spuds and broad beans are now in!! The spuds are 'Rocket' (lh of bed) and 'Kestrel' (right). We need someone to water them every day... We're also redesigning the bottle greenhouse to make it more affordable.

8 April 2010

Things are coming along nicely with the garden project and we should see another big development this weekend as we have a work party on Saturday - so lots of manpower!

18 March 2010

Bottle collection going really well - most bins full! - and first raised bed should be up next week.

4 March 2010

Planting plans have been revised, manure tests planned and a raised bed is on its way.
