Project overview

Action 21 staff are involved in many projects where additional administrative support would be really useful. 

Principal Function of Volunteer

To assist office staff in administrative and organisational tasks in order to deliver Action 21 projects.  We can work with you to match your interests and areas of experience with one of our projects.

Tasks and Activities

As a volunteer you will carry out some or all of the following activities, depending on your individual capabilities and preferences. This list is only a guide to the types of activities that may be required. 

  • Typing up lists
  • Researching green/local sources of goods and services
  • Inputting volunteer and member details onto our database
  • Creating posters and leaflets
  • Filing
  • Project specific tasks
  • Corresponding with external organisations and agencies like the local media or schools.

Benefits

This role provides excellent work experience, especially for people pursuing a career in community/charity work and the environmental field as well as those interested in sustainability.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience sought

  • Good level of literacy
  • Basic computer and internet skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Word)

Time commitment required

Usually ½ - 1 full day during the week (office hours).  We have a hot desk system so please ask us about our current desk availability.

Training, Reviews & Support

General

  • Registration session with Amy, The Volunteer Development Worker to provide an overview of Action 21 and what volunteering on our projects involves.  Also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
  • Project Induction with an office staff member
  • End of probation review session (after 4 weeks or sessions of volunteering; with Amy and/or office staff as appropriate)
  • 6 monthly review sessions with Amy

Expenses

You can claim back reasonable expenses for travel.  How you go about claiming back these costs will be explained in more detail during your induction.

If you have the time to volunteer for a full day (about 7 hours) we’ll even give you a free lunch!
